"There is pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is rapture on the lonely shore, There is society where none intrudes..." Lord Byron (1788 - 1824) A good friend sent me these lines from Byron's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage, which captured what I tried to say by opening my readings of Blue Sky, Red Canoe with "Go placidly amid the noise and haste..." Thank you to all of you who braved the snow and cold to take part in the book launch for Blue Sky, Red Canoe at The Roxy on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The turnout and response was so gratifying and it was a lot of fun!
I am happy to announce that Alpine Book Peddlers has agreed to distribute "Blue Sky, Red Canoe" amongst their network. The book will be available on their website soon!
1. I spent 2 hours at the Provincial Archives yesterday researching various corporate records. I was able to confirm a couple of facts and find ONE new fact. A moment of excitement crammed into two hours. Sheesh.
2. I am feeling a little badly for Cafe Books, on Main Street in Canmore. Ami there was willing to take a chance on carrying A Métis Man's Dream even though I was not a "local". Unfortunately for them, they still have a supply of books on their shelves. If you will be, are, or know someone who is in Canmore and looking for an upbeat story, some great historical photos, and information on marine transport, Métis people, and the north, please speak to Ami or one of the other helpful people at Cafe Books. It is a favourite of mine. Both Chapters West Edmonton, and Indigo South Edmonton Common are keen supporters of LOCAL AUTHORS. Leah at Chapters and Carmen at Indigo go out of their way to welcome and encourage us locals, to help us understand the book selling side of things, and to prominently display local works. It is a refreshing change from the old days, I think. Many thanks to both.
Thanks to Bob Schilf and staff at the wonderful Track n Trail outdoor store. Whyte Avenue between 101 and 102 Streets. They have copies of Blue Sky, Red Canoe among other great Christmas ideas!
NOW AVAILABLE AT CHAPTERS WEST EDMONTON! Purchase your signed copy of Blue Sky, Red Canoe now at Chapters West Edmonton, 170 St and 100 Ave.
They're here! Arrived today, many boxes filled with bright blue copies of "Blue Sky, Red Canoe". I am pleased with both the look and the feel.
Audreys has taken the first copies and more are headed out the door! I hope you like my second book of western Canadiana, this one a memoir of exploring life and nature along the Red Deer River, through Dinosaur Park, and out onto the wide prairie. More than a paddling memoir, "Blue Sky, Red Canoe" explores western Canadian and Indigenous history, family, adventure and escape from a busy law office through stories, and memories. Available at Audreys, 107 Street and Jasper Avenue, Edmonton. Please join me at the launch of my new book, Blue Sky, Red Canoe!
Place: Theatre Network at The Roxy Theatre 10708 - 124 Street, Edmonton. Date: Sunday, November 24 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm, with remarks at 2:30 pm. What: Part memoir, part travelogue, part natural history, Blue Sky, Red Canoe explores Alberta's Red Deer River and the opening of the Canadian west. There will be a short presentation, a chance to catch up with old friends, see the new Roxy, and of course, buy a signed copy of Blue Sky, Red Canoe. |
